Should I go to another island?
We moved from Vienna / Austria to Nassau / Bahamas last year because I've always wanted to live in the land of my Father. I feel very at home here and now want to settle down, buy property and build a house for me and my children. The question is, should I do it here or go to Harbour Island (another of the Bahamas)? Nassau has a very high crime rate, nasty traffic, expensive properties ($ 250,000 and more) and no government secondary acceptable. It means I have to put my kids in private school after finishing primary school. On the other hand, most of my family lives here, although rare ever met. Harbour Island has an excellent all-age school, the properties of say $ 50,000 and above and I think I could find a job there. Do you think it is possible live on an island so small? I love the idea of real island life (a lot of swimming, no cars, lots of peace and nature), but what about my children? Do you think you will miss something? If so, what?
About two years ago, my mother decided to move my family to a small island (and I mean small … 48 people throughout the year …) and outside the city. Despite my younger brothers were not sure about the move, now they are all installed, they love it. Even my sister who is very much a "child of the city." Swimming, walking, biking, boating, going out four wheels of your friend to go hunting, building ice rinks, exit and camp fires … there is something for them to do. I am very happy that they are outside the city and away from the negativity of city life. Two years ago, I never thought it would be possible to be having a wonderful life in a quiet area. Now would not give for the world. Hope this helps … good luck with your decision!
