How do I report a stewardess that the service dog accompanying me has to be in my lap.?
I'm traveling to the Bahamas, on a long flight and I have a small dog service. I fear that the airlines say that I have to have the dog in the safety at all times. I have Parkinson's disease and the dog need to stay in touch with my body so it can detect and remedy the paralysis spell of fear and dissociation. Please, any idea is welcome! The federal law here in the U.S. I am allowed to bring my service animal in any place that the general public goes. If I was blind and had a big dog to see eyes, that dog would not be sitting in the seat. Therefore, allow my dog ββon my lap.
I have a friend who uses a service dog in the U.S., and I have understood that by law has to show the airline's medical records (which are probably aware of it!) Just double checking yet, because I'm not in the U.S. and laws may have changed since then. However, if you choose, maybe you could get a letter from your doctor stating that service dog needs to be on your lap in order to perform the tasks being trained. The letter is not necessary to describe the nature of their disability. The amount of information which gives the airline in relation to their disability, is entirely up to you. My friend also traveled with small service dog on her lap, and she had no problem! If in doubt, simply tell the attendant that his service dog should be on your lap so that he / she can perform their training tasks.
