Any advice on cruising with a baby?

I posted this in cruise travel but thought it would be better to post under parenting :) We are going on our first cruise in April on Carnival. We have no idea what to expect. Any helpful hints, ideas, advice on cruising with kids? ages are 12, 10 and 6 months. What kind of clothes do we need to pack? Are there certain places in the ship you have to dress nicer than others? What will I need for baby? Thanks :) oh – and we’re going to the Bahamas

I haven’t cruised with Carnival, but I have cruised three times with Princess (which happens to be owned by Carnival). You’re going to have a lot of fun. Your 10 and 12 year olds are going to want to run around, and I’m almost certain (I’m 99.9% sure) that Carnival has a kids center that they can go to (it’s basically a teen hangout, they play videogames and do whatever they want to do). Pack like you were going to a hotel for the same amount of time. There is a small laundromat on most ships. For the baby, bring whatever you think you will need–plenty of diapers (although you will be able to buy more when you’re in port), formula (unless you breastfeed), etc.

There aren’t specific places on the ship where you have to dress nicer than others, but at dinner you will need to dress up a little (like you’re going to a semi-nice place at home), guys generally wear khakis and a nice shirt (a polo or an Oxford) and women generally wear something kind of casual (like a skirt or just a shirt and pants). On formal nights you will need to be more dressed up, generally guys wear a shirt and tie with a blazer (optional, though) and women wear a nice dress or a semi-formal skirt. With your kids it may be easier to go to the buffet on formal nights, there is a 24 hour buffet on board.
