Best general advice for travel in the U.S.?
Hi all, I am traveling to the U.S. in October for my honeymoon. Basically, after 3-4 months of research, I've done my research on the sites i visit, etc, and created my mini guide! Sorry I could have stayed out, is important that things should know in general? Anyone care to share a few, or point me to a web site? For example, the deposit, which is either not smoking case taxis, metro, etc? Thank you very much in advance. (I will visit Miami – Bahamas – Los Angeles – Las Vegas – New York)
I found the biggest thing my friends Europe has a problem with is realizing how big is the U.S.. They are used to everything in their country to be fairly close together, so I tend to think that because the U.S. is only one country that is all too close. Not true. You have to think of it more as each state is equivalent to a country in Europe. For example, can take hours to travel 70 mph in the car just to get to another city in the state. Just something to consider if you suddenly get the desire to have an impromptu visit somewhere not originally planned, may take a while to get to your destination. New York and Los Angeles are both going to be more expensive than, say Miami, probably as much as twice as expensive. Everywhere you are visiting, however, are tourist areas so generally cost more than average anyway. You really will not find public transport in Miami, there is definitely no metro. While you are staying in the city, not a neighborhood, you should be fine everywhere he goes without a car. You may have one in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, depending on where you are planning to visit. In 90% of U.S. public transportation actually does not exist, and all interstate highways and the overall size of all, walking is not really an option in most places. You can get taxis at any place, but unless you're in a city center is not going to see one on the road. You have to find the number and call one. They are also very expensive, not abroad. For example, a 10-minute walk once cost me $ 20. If you're traveling by car a lot, probably would be better off just renting a car for the day. Can Car rental from about $ 35 per day. In most places in the U.S. that would be the cheapest option. However, you go to the tourist cities large so that prices could change. I would like to compare prices and find out early. Prices vary widely by city. Most states have not adopted a smoking ban in all public places. Basically subways, restaurants, museums, etc. You can still smoke outside and in most bars. In restaurants, where smoking is still allowed is to ask everyone to go if you choose to smoke or not. If you do not ask you this when you enter, then the restaurant is not allowed smoking. It's that simple. Expect to pay about $ 15 per person includes tax, tip and drinks in a restaurant sit. In a fancy restaurant can pay as much as $ 60 or more per person. Fast food will run about $ 7 – $ 10 value meals. The general rule is that if you order food from the table and have a waiter Tip real 15-20% depending on how well the service is. No shift in the fast food places or cafes have counter service. This also includes restaurants where you place your order and receive a number. Does not count if the person who appears once to get the food to you. Also, remember that most places in the U.S. Free refills are a fact. Save money by ordering a small or regular instead of one large and then fill it. You can also request a reset to go in most free restaurant. Water is also free in the restaurants. If the hotel you are staying at is offering a complimentary continental breakfast, do not expect it much. Most continental breakfasts are a joke, but once in hotels, while really nice. The point, if you're a big breakfast person who probably will want to plan to go out to eat, if not, coffee and biscuits will be waiting for you. I noticed you are visiting in October. Will still be hot in Florida and the Bahamas, but it will be cold in Las Vegas and New York. California could go either way depending on what the weather happens to be doing this year. Miami and Bahamas laid back, relaxed, flip-flops and shorts kind of place. random people can talk to you, ask you questions. People are very relaxed and too nice in the south. Will start a conversation with a stranger. It is perfectly normal there. In the north, however, most people keep themselves, of their own affairs. It is unlikely that a random person will engage in a conversation with you in saying that the subway unless they are a tourist too. Tell everyone that is its moon groups. Hotels, restaurants, etc will come out of their way to make a special moment with discounts, free desserts, that sort of thing.
