Tips on traveling to the Bahamas!?

I am planning a trip to the Bahamas in April (my birthday) We will fly into Nassau, and I want to stay in bed and breakfast or vacation rental, but seeing as I've never been there before, I do not know what island should go. We'll be there for 7 days, and we all we can do: lay on the beaches, water sports, Kyaking, hiking, and shopping and soak up the culture (or tourist:)) Do you have any suggestions or travel tips for me? Oh, and it is easy or cheap to get from one island to the next? Thanks ~!

I agree with Kaylee … Of all the islands I've been, I was very disappointed in the Bahamas … I was in Nassau and Paradise Island The smaller islands may be better (Abaco, B, etc), but there are few & B or inn, and almost no hiking … basically consists of buying bags of straw, beads, and tourist items. My favorite is the island of St. Bart's, which has everything on the list, and French culture teriffic, is low season, after 15 to 18 April. You may want to look magnificent beaches in Negril, jungle tours, culture, purchases.
