The whites in the 19th century Caribbean …?
Can you recommend any books or movies that take place during the first half of 1800-island Caribbean (which does not really matter … but the English colonies would be best.) Around the Regency / Victorian era. I'm trying to write a story based on family history, about the relationship based on the relationship between a young descendant of Loyalists of South Carolina, and a young woman slave on a plantation in the Bahamas. I'm pretty good with the overall story, but I'm trapped in tiny "details". Like fashion, for example. I know what type of clothing were fashionable for whites in England and the U.S., but the climate is completely different in the Caribbean. Do women still wear white corsets and heavy dresses in the heat of the Caribbean? Does the rich people of the planter class not sending children to school in England? Usually have no ties to the land of the "old" or her life focused exclusively on the island? I know … strange question, but any help would be great.
