Spanish Wells, a piece of paradise

My family has been visiting Spanish Wells, Bahamas since 1999. To reach this segment fabulous paradise, that spread in North Eleuthera, Bahamas airport (ELH) ground and then take a taxi to the North Eleuthera dock, called Gene's Bay. From there we board a ferry for five minutes waiting for our arrival at the pier Wells Spanish city. While traveling on the ferry, I'm always in love with the bright turquoise sea as I approach the unique fishing village with pastel houses and fishing boats. I'm surprised by the size and beauty of some of these boats in the dock. Lobster fishing is the main industry of the local people here and Spanish Wells is known as the lobster capital "of the Bahamas. Although the fishermen here are prosperous, it is very difficult work.

Spanish Wells is the town of Cayo de San Jorge Island (about one per area of a mile and three), a charming tropical village with all modern amenities. Spanish Wells is where everything is commercial development (restaurants, grocery stores, etc), most of which are located near the dock or on Main Street. The surrounding houses in Spanish Wells are artistically painted with bright colors and tropical pastel, which are offset by the beautiful scenery of Caribbean flowers. Spanish Wells also is home to some favorite beach locations.

Nearby Russell Island is an island of approximately two by four miles that connects to Spanish Wells by a small bridge. As much of the Spanish city of Wells is already developed, many new homes being built in Russell Island generation youngest of the Bahamas, or by foreigners moving in.

Russell Island is still fairly quiet, as it is an area larger than the Spanish Wells, and many homes are poorly dispersed, as is in its early development stage. As it travels through some of the roads here, it's fun see the goats that are fenced in, as they are passed by in his golf cart rental. Russell Island is home to many species of fruit trees such as bananas, oranges bitter, bread, coconut and more. There is a great birding here, and the sunsets are spectacular, too.

The population of the area Spanish Wells / Russell Island is about 1,800. Many of the inhabitants of the Bahamas here share the same common last name such as Pinder, Higgs, etc. You find that the locals are hardworking people, and many versatile. This is a close-knit community, family-oriented and religious. Many businesses are closed Sunday.

The main mode of transport for tourists is golf carts. Golf carts can be rented at the pier.
The premises in general, either own a car, truck or golf cart. Drives on the left side of the road. Many of the locals are very friendly and welcoming, and it is common to greet tourists, as they pass through the streets.

Although Spanish Wells may not be for everyone, I recommend this island to tourists who wish to relax in an atmosphere tropical nice, and for those who know how to have fun. Spanish Wells is not for those looking glamorous casinos, glamorous and shopping meccas. However, the Spanish Wells is a wonderful place if you are an avid water sports such as boating, fishing, kayaking, scuba diving, snorkeling, or simply enjoy a day at the beach. Walk bike is a good option, too. If you want to check out a few, new nice vacation rentals in the area, visit: http://www.eleuthera-bahamas-vacation-rentals.com
